Advantages of a Calculator for Exams

Helps to Understand Math Better

Here, we are talking about either a scientific or a graphing calculator permitted to exams. It is a calculator enables you to deal with complex math. It allows you to focus on the math you are solving.

Maybe it is a linear regression question, or you are dealing with correlations. Instead of performing long and tedious calculations; your work is much shorter, and understanding is easier.

Allows Connecting Questions with Real Life Problems

Many times you will find some courses are difficult if you are not relating the knowledge to real-life situations. But when you have data, with the help of your calculator, you will be able to graph and analyze it using the applications provided on your calculator.

To most people, graphs and pictures make more sense than formulas.

It makes Studying Fun

When you see the numbers, formulas, and answers on the screen, you can easily relate whether you have the answer you anticipated. If not, you can edit entries and recalculate your answer.

Using any other calculator like a basic one creates a set of problems. From not being able to retrace your entries and sometimes missing a step and not realizing it.

Disadvantages of using an Exams Calculator

The main drawback of using a calculator for Exams is associated with using any other calculator.

This brings up the issue of over-dependence on the tool such that it can be challenging to solve simple algebra without the help of a calculator. You can only achieve so much if you are nothing without your calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions about Calculators for Exams

Can a calculator for Exams solve the inverse of a matrix?

After ensuring that your matrix is a square to enable solving the inverse of a matrix.  The formula for finding the inverse of a matrix is a^ (-1). For example, if you have a 2×2 matrix:

For example, if you have a 2x2 matrixType it in the calculator like this and press enter.Matrix 2 x 2

But it can be a process to actually put in the matrix if you don’t have an idea how to go about it.

Go to the Menu: Matrix Editing.

For Inverse, you will need to look for the symbol x-1. It should take you to the menu where you can enter the matrix. On that window, you will need to select the matrix, indicate how large the matrix is in terms of rows and columns.

Enter the numbers in order from left to right. After you enter the matrix, some calculators will require that you quit to prevent entering into a loop. In this case, press the keys to go back to the main menu.

At this point, go back to the matrix menu, press your saved matrix, the inverse symbol and press ENTER to get its inverse.

What is Computer Algebraic System?

In the TI-Nspire, this is a system that manipulates, plots, and solves mathematical expressions using an analytical method. Computer Algebraic Systems is super helpful in calculus, linear algebra, and ordinary differential expressions. It works with equations without the necessity to generate any numeric data.

How to choose calculator for exams // Calculator for exams buyer’s guide

It uses sophisticated algorithms to help solve algebraic equations, systems of differential algebraic equations, and regular systems of equations. This improves accuracy as it eliminates the risk of suffering from floating-point errors.

How do you use the memory keys?

Memory keys allow you to access a number you often use in the form of a variable.

For this question, we are going to refer to the TI-84 calculator:

  • The symbol The symbol STOlets you store any number or formula you want
  • Go to the home screen by pressing [2ND] [MODE]
  • Enter the number or formula you wish to store
  • Press The symbol STO
  • Press [ALPHA] and the corresponding letter that you want to store the number. This should be an alphabet letter and Greek letter theta
  • Press [ENTER] to store the value

Now you can use the number in an expression by just placing the cursor where you want it to appear. Press [ALPHA] and the letter that you stored the number.

Your stored number will always be in the letter you allocate it until you change it or store a new number.

Which is better; a calculator for Exams or Excel?

Excel program is useful in many aspects when studying for exams. It is advantageous mainly because it can process data much faster than a calculator.

For the exams we have discussed here today, a laptop is only allowed for presentation of work and not for accessing the calculator. As such, we can all agree that you will not be accessing the Excel program in an exam room.

Conclusion

Whether you are studying for the SATs, ACT, FE, ISC, or CFA, we go you covered with the best calculators for exams. These are models permitted to the above major tests and more.

By investing in any of these calculators, you are choosing better understanding of your studies and passing of your exams.

Best calculators ( as far as I know)- Casio FX82(MS or ES, although ES is better), Casio FX991(MS or ES, once again ES is better), Texas Instruments Ti36PRO(only one configuration- by default ES). ES is basically a display system that shows equations as they appear in textbooks or as you write them on paper. This is especially helpful. Advantage of Ti36pro- larger storage space to save history.
